Camels sweep weekend at home with 8-0 win over Howard

Tipler hits walk-off homer in sixth in run-rule win over the Bison

BUIES CREEK - Campbell softball completed its weekend sweep at the Campbell Invitational as the Camels cruised to an 8-0 run-rule win over Howard in six innings at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium today.

Kynadi Tipler hit a two-run homer to walk it off as the Camels improve their record to 5-5 on the season after four straight tournament wins at home.

Campbell started hot, scoring multiple runs in the first inning in its fourth straight game, as Destini England scored a run after interference was called on Howard's catcher for blocking the plate. Kayla Fredendall scored another run on her groundout to first to put the Camels up 2-0.

The Camels added on two more runs the next inning when an error, hit and walk loaded the bases for the Camels with Tipler up to bat. The senior hit a single, driving in two runs as the Camels took a 4-0 lead after two complete.

Campbell added runs in the third and fourth on a groundout from Diana Parker and a RBI-double from Cassie Wancheck. Tipler's second home run of the season ended the game after six innings as the Camels 8-0 lead brought the run-rule into effect.

England went 2-for-4 at the plate for Campbell, her fourth straight game with multiple hits, and added two stolen bases. Tipler also went 2-for-4, scoring one run and batting in four others.

Starting shortstop Alexa Pagano turned two double plays for the Camels starting with a 1-6-3 in the second inning and a 4-6-3 double play after she had moved to second base in the fourth.

Howard's Te'La Beard went 2-for-2 at the plate while Kalita Dennis and Breanna Robinson each collected hits.

Georgeanna Barefoot picked up her third win of the season after tossing six innings and striking out five batters. Raye Thomas took her second loss of the season for the Bison after she gave up one earned run on four hits in three innings pitched.
