Mercer tops lacrosse 14-9

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Haily Rhatigan and Lily Morin combined for eight second half points to push Mercer past Campbell 14-9 Sunday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

The Bears improve to 2-1 on the season with their second straight win, while Campbell falls to 0-3 in the early going.

After a 4-4 draw through the first half, Mercer posted five straight goals to open the second stanza, led by two goals and an assist from Rhatigan, plus another score and an assist from Morin, matching the Camels the rest of the way for the road victory.

Rhatigan and Morin both registered four goals and an assist, with Morin adding four draw controls and Rhatigan tallying two ground balls and a caused turnover. Chloe Schaeffer and Catie Snee chipped in two goals apiece for the Bears, while Eva Thorn collected two assists and a score.

Emma Pizzo gathered four ground balls with four caused turnovers, and Michaela Lucas notched four ground balls, two caused turnovers and a game-high five draw controls. Iseabal Cryne added 14 saves in the win.

Julianna Sanchez led the Camels with four goals, while Laura Will recorded three assists. Megan Matthews also tallied three points on a goal and two helpers, with Mackenzie Kolesar picking up two more goals for CU.

Sam Carey also scored a goal, adding four draw controls and two ground balls. Rebekah Taylor anchored the defensive end with four caused turnovers and three ground balls, with Alex Salim saving 14 shots and picking up four ground balls.

Mercer held a 16-9 advantage in draw controls, while the teams combined to convert just 3-of-19 free position attempts.

Next up, the Camels head on the road to Richmond on Wednesday, February 19, returning home on February 22, hosting East Carolina.
