Gardner-Webb holds off Camels 73-61

BOILING SPRINGS, S.C. – Nate Johnson and Eric Jamison, Jr., combined for 38 points and Gardner-Webb held off Campbell 73-61 Saturday at Paul Porter Arena.
 
Johnson scored 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds, while Jamison added 16 points and Christian Turner 10 for the Runnin' Bulldogs (12-15, 8-7), who won for the fourth time in the last five games.
 
Cedric Henderson, Jr., led Campbell (14-15, 5-12) with 13 points; Cory Gensler added 11 while Trey Spencer and Austin McCullough chipped in nine apiece.  Joshua Lusane scored eight points and pulled down a team-high seven rebounds.
 
GWU used a 10-0 run midway through the second half to take the lead for good, shot 65 percent (13-20) in the final period, and outscored the Camels 40-18 in the paint.
 
Campbell, which opened the second half on a 13-4 run to grab the lead, finished 21-of-56 (.375) from the floor, made 8-of-24 (.250) threes and 11-of-14 from the line.
 
Training 34-27 at the break, the Camels hit five of their first six shots in the second period and led 40-38 on Gensler's pull-up jumper with 15:50 remaining.  McCullough's corner three gave the Camels a 43-40 lead with 14:09 to play, but GWU hit four-straight shots in a 2:00 span to go in front for good.
 
Overall, Gardner-Webb shot 56 percent from the floor, hit 4-of-14 threes and 15-of-21 (.714) from the line.  GWU finished with a 34-28 edge on the boards and blocked seven shots, five by Ludovic Dufeal.
 
A senior from Cary, N.C., Gensler set the school record for career games played (131) Saturday, passing Chris Clemons and Andrew Eudy (130) on the all-time list.
 
The Camels return home to face UNC Asheville next Saturday (Feb. 29) at 4:30 p.m. in the final regular season home game for seniors Cory Gensler, Noah Saunders and Trey Spencer.
