Campbell 1, Chattanooga 0 (8 innings)
Campbell earned a hard-fought 1-0 extra-innings win over Chattanooga to open up play at the Holy City Showdown.
Diana Parker scored the lone run of the game, hitting a walk-off sacrifice fly in the eighth.
Campbell loaded the bases on multiple occasions during the game, first occurring in the first inning. Claudia Ware, Kynadi Tipler and Noemi Cortez all earned walks but the Mocs were able to avoid giving up early runs in the inning.
The Camels stacked the bases later in the third on back-to-back hits from Tipler and Kayla Fredendall and another walk granted to Cortez. Chattanooga left all three stranded though, picking up a strikeout to close the inning.
The Mocs lined out into double-plays in the fifth and sixth innings as Diana Parker turned both plays for 6-4 and 6-3 putouts.
Both sides went to extra innings after being held scoreless through seven innings. Under the international tiebreaker rule, Chattanooga started the top of the eighth with a runner at second. The Mocs threatened after a hit and a stolen base put two runners in scoring position. Starting pitcher Georgeanna Barefoot struck out one and a diving catch in foul territory by Diana Parker ended the threat.
Parker ended the game on her sacrifice fly out to left field, scoring pinch runner Mandy Curbeira from third.Â
Tipler and Mackenzie Parker both went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Camels while Fredendall collected another hit.
Barefoot (4-3) pitched a complete game for the Camels, allowing just two hits and striking out seven on her way to her fourth win of the season. Celie Hudson (3-3) took the loss for the Mocs after allowing five hits and walking eight batters.
College of Charleston 6, Campbell 1
Campbell fell 6-1 to tournament hosts College of Charleston.
The Cougars added a run on a sacrifice fly in the first. Campbell responded as Tipler drove in a run on her RBI single through the left side.
Charleston reclaimed the lead, scoring three runs in the third inning and two more in the fourth.
Destini England went 2-for-4 on two hits to the infield. Fredendall went 2-for-3 including one double while Katelyn Chisholm scored a run and added another hit.
