Three Camels named to Big South Women’s Cross Country All-Decade Team

Botha, Louw, Maritim selected to All-Decade team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Lize Botha, Michaela Louw and Joan Maritim have all been named to the Big South Women's Cross Country All-Decade Team presented by Hercules Tires, the conference office announced on Monday.

Botha, Louw, and Maritim were the only nominees from Campbell on the All-Decade ballot. Candidates were determined by the Big South based on being at least one of the following: was a multiple All-Conference honoree; was named an All-American; Is a member of the Big South Conference Hall of Fame; Student-athletes must be a college graduate or in good academic standing with their respective institution; won a Conference Championship as a coach and/or was voted Conference Coach of the Year.

Lize Botha (2016-19) - Pretoria, South Africa

  • Selected to the All-Conference team in each of her four seasons at Campbell, making her the first in program history to do so
  • Helped Campbell to three straight runner-up finishes at the Big South Championships
  • Placed sixth overall at the 2019 Big South Championships, finishing as the top individual for Campbell

Michaela Louw (2016-19) - Sasolburg, South Africa

  • Three-time All-Conference selection
  • Helped Campbell to three straight runner-up finishes at the Big South Championships
  • Finished second-overall at the 2017 Big South Championships

Joan Maritim (2014-17) - Kasok, Kenya

  • Became the first female Big South Runner of the Year in program history (2016)
  • Named the Big South Freshman of the Year after finishing second overall at the Big South Championships (2014)
  • Named to the NCAA Southeast All-Region team after placing 16th overall (2016)
  • Two-time All-Conference selection
  • Three-Time Big South Runner of the Week 

A 15-person committee of Big South Conference administrators served as the official voting panel to determine the All-Decade Team, with fan voting comprising 20 percent of the overall total.  The 2010-19 Women's Cross Country All-Decade Team is listed below in alphabetical order and features 12 runners and one head coach.  In case of ties, additional honorees have been added.

Candidates that participated in two different decades were placed in a specific decade based on consultation from member institutions.  Member institutions also had final determination in regards to inclusion of student-athletes and coaches.  Previous Women's Cross Country All-Decade Teams were recognized for the years 1986-89, 1990-99 and 2000-09.
