Tuelle beats the buzzer in 62-61 win over PC

Tuelle scores final five points for CU

CLINTON, S.C. - Shy Tuelle hit a layup as time expired to give Campbell a 62-61 win over Presbyterian College on Friday evening at the Templeton Center.
 

Campbell improves to 7-5 overall and 4-3 in the Big South while Presbyterian falters to 6-5 overall and 5-4 in conference play.


HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Campbell jumped out to a 10-0 lead, its largest of the game, due to in part by three-pointers from Tatyana Carver and Luana Serranho
  • Presbyterian shot 60.9% over the course of the first two quarters, the best mark by a Big South opponent in a first half this season, making it a 32-31 Campbell lead at the break
  • The Blue Hose earned its first lead of the game on a Maleia Bracone three-pointer with 6:23 to go in the third
  • Brittany Staves answered back, scoring seven straight for the Camels off the bench to help give CU a 50-44 lead heading into the fourth quarter
  • Both sides went scoreless for nearly three minutes until Trinity Johnson hit a driving layup with 1:06 remaining, giving PC a 59-57 lead
  • Shy Tuelle responded with a three-pointer on the other end to put Campbell up until Johnson hit a second-chance layup to retake the lead, 61-60, with 1.7 remaining
  • Tuelle responded once again, hitting the game-winning layup on a cut to the basket as time expired to give Campbell its first Big South win on the road

 


NOTABLES

  • Campbell had three scorers finish in double-figures behind 16 points from Taya Bolden, 13 points from Tuelle and a season-best 13 points from Carver who made her second start of the season
  • Staves finished with seven points, three assists and two rebounds in 17 minutes off the bench while Serranho played all 40 minutes for the Camels, scoring five points and assisting on three buckets
  • Campbell forced the Blue Hose into 22 turnovers, the fourth-time this year the Camels have forced an opponent into 20 turnovers or more
  • The Fighting Camels went just 2-for-3 from the free throw line in the entire game marking the fewest overall shots from the charity stripe by a CU team in the Ronny Fisher era
  • Presbyterian shot 55.6% from the field and from behind the arc, both season-best marks against the Campbell defense this year
