Allen takes Big South weekly honors

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – After posted 3.0 tackles for loss and forcing two fumbles in Saturday's win at Gardner-Webb, Campbell defensive end Brevin Allen has been named Big South Defensive Player of the Week.

Allen's 3.0 stops for loss included a pair of sacks, totaling five tackles on the night. The senior also added a pass breakup to go along with his two forced fumbles, helping CU take home the inaugural North Carolina East/West Barbecue Bowl Trophy.

The Greensboro, N.C. native picked up sacks on each of Gardner-Webb's final two possessions, first notching a strip sack to set Campbell's second TD of the quarter. On back to back plays in the third with the score tied 21-21, Allen stopped Narii Gaither for a loss of three yards, then dropped into coverage to break up a potential Gardner-Webb touchdown and force fourth down.

Allen ranks fifth in the FCS in tackles for loss (2.0 per game) and sixth in sacks (1.3 per game), totaling 10.0 tackles for loss over the last four games. Saturday marked Allen's third straight game with at least 2.5 tackles for loss.

This is Allen's second career Big South Player of the Week honor, also picking up a nod in 2019.

The Camels return to Buies Creek for their Big South home opener on October 16, hosting league preseason favorite Monmouth. The game will be Military Appreciation Day at Barker-Lane Stadium, with all active military and veterans receiving discounted tickets with valid ID.
