Former Campbell All-American Chris Clemons has signed an Exhibit-10 contract with the Boston Celtics.
Â
The 2019 Big South Conference player of the year, Clemons led the nation in scoring (30.1) as a senior, finished his career as the third all-time leading scorer in NCAA Division I history with 3,225 points and is one of only 10 players in Division I history to reach the 3,000-point barrier.0
Â
Clemons signed as a free agent with the Houston Rockets in 2019 and his two-way deal was converted to a full NBA contract. When he suited up on opening night (Oct. 24), it marked the first time a Campbell alum was in uniform for an NBA game since George Lehmann played in the last of his 66 career games over two seasons with the NBA's St. Louis/Atlanta Hawks on Nov. 13, 1968 at the Seattle Supersonics.
Â
During his rookie season (2019-20) in Houston, Clemons averaged 4.9 points in 8.8 minutes, while shooting 35 percent from 3-point range in 33 games. At the G League level with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, he averaged 24.1 points, 5.9 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.9 steals. Clemons tore his Achilles tendon during the 2020-21 preseason.
Â
Introduced in the NBA's most recent Collective Bargaining Agreement, Exhibit 10 contracts are one-year deals worth the minimum salary. They can include an optional bonus up to $50,000.
