In the win at North Alabama to open Big South play, CU notched two defensive touchdowns (fumble or interception return) in a game for just the third time in its modern era (since 2008), accomplishing the feat for the first time against a Division I opponent. The Camels also scored two defensive TDs against Apprentice in 2011 (fumble return, interception return) and at Carthage in 2008 (two interception returns). It was the first time a Campbell team had returned two fumbles for touchdowns in a game.
The Camels are one of nine FCS teams with at least three defensive touchdowns, trailing only Jacksonville State's four. Campbell owns 13 non-offensive touchdowns since 2017.
Camels against ranked foes
CU will be taking on No. 11 Kennesaw State on Saturday, the team's sixth matchup against a ranked FCS opponent in its history. Two of those previous five games against ranked opponents have been against the Owls, ranked as high as No. 2 in the country in 2018. KSU was also ranked No. 11 in 2019 when it last visited Buies Creek.
Campbell is 0-5 all-time against ranked opponents.
James Madison, currently ranked No. 6 in the FCS, will host CU on November 6.
Hartley sets passing mark
Sophomore quarterback
Wiley Hartley passed for 314 yards on 19-of-37 throws against Monmouth last week. It was Hartley's third 300 yard passing game of the season, becoming the first Campbell QB to hit the mark three times, not only in a season, but in a career. Of the eight Camels to pass for 300 or more yards in a game, Brian Hudson is the only other QB to accomplish the feat twice, with both performances coming during the 2013 season (340 yards vs. Marist, 308 vs. Mercer).
