BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Camille Downs came off the bench to score 19 points and grab 11 rebounds to lead Norfolk State to a 65-49 win over Campbell Thursday night at Gore Arena.
Mahoganie Williams added 14 points and nine boards for the Spartans (2-0), who outscored the Camels 42-16 in the paint.
Shy Tuelle led Campbell (1-1) with 15 points, including 4-of-5 threes.
Audrey Fuller added nine points, while
Brittany Staves added eight points and six boards.
Tuelle's triple pulled the Camels within 36-30 midway through the third quarter, but the Spartans hit their next five shots to build a double-digit lead they did not relinquish.
Deja Francis chipped in 11 points for Norfolk State, which finished 28-60 (.467) from the floor and grabbed a 37-27 advantage on the glass.
Campbell shot 37.8 percent (17-45) on the night and made 6-of-18 threes (.333).
Taya Bolden, who had 22 points and 16 rebounds in Tuesday's season-opening win over Pfeiffer, was held to four points and four boards Thursday. The red-shirt senior moved into first place on Campbell's career games played list (124).
Campbell returns to action Wednesday (Nov. 17) when the Camels host St. Andrews at 7 p.m.
