BLACKSBURG, Va. - Elizabeth Kitley scored 28 points to lead No. 25/25 Virginia Tech to an 84-39 win over Campbell Saturday at Cassell Coliseum.
Georgia Amoore scored nine of her 14 points in the game's first 10 minutes as the Hokies built a 26-13 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Virginia Tech (5-0) held a 47-20 advantage on the boards and outscored Campbell (2-2) in the paint by a 34-6 margin.
Four Camels scored six points including Luana Serranho who added three assists, three boards and a steal.
The Camels held their own with the nationally-ranked Hokies throughout the third quarter despite facing a 44-21 deficit at halftime. Brittany Staves drilled two three-pointers while Courtney Dahlquist added another as Virginia Tech held a narrow 17-13 advantage in the period.
Faith Price made a three with 9:08 left in the fourth quarter before the Hokies went on a 21-2 run to close out the game.
Kitley made 12-of-17 shots from the floor (70.3%) and scored six or more points in every quarter of play.Â
Virginia Tech shot 51.9% (28-54) on the day including shooting 55.0% (11-20) from behind the arc. Campbell made 14-of-55 from the floor (25.5%) but made 10-of-33 shots from deep (30.3%).
