SPARTANBURG, S.C. –
Alemu Mercer-Miko and
Jamie Lamb scored and Campbell overcame a 2-0 deficit to rally for a 2-2 draw with USC Upstate Sunday at County University Stadium.
The Camels (2-0-1, 1-0-1) extended their unbeaten streak vs. Big South opponents to 15 matches (13-0-2).
The Spartans jumped in front with a pair of goals in the first 13 minutes. Pol Monells took a cross from Javier Torres in the eighth minute and tallied his third goal of the year.
Just over five minutes later, Orion McHugh nodded in Mario Arrocha's service to double the lead just 12:55 into the contest.
Mercer-Miko cut the lead in half in the 28th minute when he took
Jalen James' pass and struck a left-footed shot into the top left corner to cut the Upstate lead in half.
Lamb finished a restart in the 58th minute to draw the Camels level. Mercer-Miko played the ball wide to
Franck Momo, who crossed the ball into the area where Lamb nodded in the equalizer.
Campbell's best chance to take the lead in regulation came after 74 minutes when
Tyler Young missed just wide right.
Early in the first overtime period,
Jake Morris broke into the box, but pushed his left-footed shot wide of the left post. In the 95th minute,
Bissafi Dotte's header sailed just over the crossbar on a corner kick. Three minutes later, Morris's low shot headed for the right corner drew a diving save from Upstate keeper Felipe Baeza.
Camel keeper
Samuel Lechuga preserved the draw in the 106th minute when he left his feet to tip Arrocha's header over the bar.
Campbell finished with a 15-14 edge in shots, 9-6 in attempts on target, while both teams had nine corner kicks. Lechuga made four saves, while Baeza finished with seven for the Spartans.
