Rock Hill, SC - Campbell fell in four sets at Winthrop to suffer its first loss of the season Sunday afternoon. The Camels played every set close, losing each set by the minimum two points.
Â
The Eagles held Campbell's potent offense to hitting just .073 on the day, including
Lailah Green and
Sarah Colla to each below .100. Green still managed to record her fourth double-double of the year with 10 kills and 15 digs.
Â
After trailing 15-13 in the first set, the Camels rattled off eight straight points to give them a 21-15 advantage. However, Winthrop stormed back and closed out the set with an 11-3 run to take the set 26-24. That represented the Camels first dropped set of the season.
Â
Trailing 19-15 in the second, Campbell worked to even things up at 19. But a quick Winthrop run put the Camels back in a hole. They nearly made it out, getting as close at 24-23, but couldn't quite draw level again and the Eagles took the second set 25-23 to put the Camels at a 2-0 set disadvantage.Â
Â
Trailing for the first time all year, Campbell didn't quit and posted the biggest set-win of the day, taking the third by a score of 25-21.Â
Â
Campbell had a golden opportunity to force a fifth set, having match-point in the fourth at 25-24, but a couple of attack errors and a Winthrop kill gave the Eagles three straight points to take the set 27-25, and the match 3-1.Â
Â
Five Camels posted double-digit digs on the day. Colla led the way with 11 kills and added three aces to her line as well.Â
Â
