JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. – Campbell closed out play in the Briar's Creek Invitational Tuesday by posting a season-best 2-over par team score in the final round.
Alice Sundberg turned in a season-low 71 Tuesday and
Isabell Ekstrom signed for an ever-par 72 as the Camels finished in a tie for 15th place in a field that included eight top-50 ranked teams.
Host College of Charleston (297-292-284—873) held off No. 18 Miami (301-301-272—874) to claim the team title in the 18-school field. Campbell (323-308-290—921) tied with Boston College for 15th, one stroke better than No. 49 Kansas.
Anna Nordfors turned in her third-straight top-20 individual finish for the Camels. The junior from Gothenberg, Sweden finished 19th (74-75-73—222) at six over par. Only three players – including individual champ Viktoria Hund of Charleston (73-70-67—210) – in the 93-golfer field finished in red numbers on the par-72, 6110-yard Golf Club at Briar's Creek layout.
Nordfors finished the event with 38 pars, tied for fourth in the field, tied for ninth in par-3 scoring (+1) and was 1-under over her last eight holes Tuesday.
Fellow junior
Emily Hawkins finished in a tie for 34th (77-75-74—226) after ranking third in the field in par-3 scoring (-1) and making a team-leading seven birdies. Her Tuesday scorecard revealed 14 pars.
Sundberg made five birdies Tuesday and was 2-under over her last six holes. Ekstrom matched her season-low score on a day when she played her final 14 holes 2-under par.
Emily Mollard posted a season-best 75.
Campbell continues its 2021 spring schedule Apr. 3-4 with the ECU Easter Invitational at Ironwood Golf & Country Club.
