WILLIAMSBURG, VA. – William & Mary outscored Campbell 11-1 in the second half to rally past the visiting Camels 16-12 Saturday night at Busch Turf.
The Tribe moves to 3-3 on the season, while Campbell drops to 2-4 overall.
Campbell closed the first half with seven straight goals to build an 11-5 halftime lead.
Julianna Sanchez netted a first half hat trick, while
Sam Bischoff and
Rasa Welsh scored twice for the Camels in the opening frame. Welsh also assisted on three goals, with CU converting 5-of-7 free position tries in the first half.
After the break, William & Mary scored the first five goals of the second half before Bischoff's third free position score of the night. The Tribe closed the game with six consecutive goals, including three of Belle Martire's five second half goals.
After Campbell scored 11 goals on 19 shots in the first, the Tribe, who went scoreless after Martire's score with 17:17 remaining in the opening stanza, limited the Camels to nine second half shots, while posting 18 shots, including 16 on frame.
Martire led the Tribe with eight points, scoring seven goals and adding eight draw controls, while Sabrina Schrader and Sophie Kopec added three points apiece. Caroline Hertzberg also posted four caused turnovers and three ground balls for William & Mary, while Elsa Rall saved six CU shots.
Welsh registered a team-high five points on two goals and three assists for the Camels, all in the first half, while Sanchez and Bischoff scored three goals each. Sanchez added nine draw controls, while
Lizzie Yurchak caused three turnovers with four ground balls, five draw controls and a goal.
Alex Salim also saved 12 shots.
Next up, Campbell heads to former Big South foe Coastal Carolina on Wednesday, March 24. CU returns home on March 27, hosting Furman.
