Furman edges Camels 15-14

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – With Campbell looking for its second goal with under a minute to play in regulation to tie, Meghan Deehan came out with the ground ball, sealing the 15-14 Furman win Saturday at Barker-Lane Stadium.

In the fifth all-time meeting in the series, the Camels (3-5) and Paladins (5-3) played to their fourth one-goal game, with the series being separated by six total goals.

After Lizzie Yurchak's fourth goal of the day tied the game at 12-all with 11:46 on the clock, Campbell posted five turnovers over its final nine possessions.

Meagan Beal's goal with 1:02 to play gave Furman a 15-13 lead before Yurchak answered with a free position score, her fifth goal of the afternoon, with 41 seconds remaining. Shae Fitzgerald controlled the ensuing draw, but Rachel Sindler forced a CU miscue with six seconds to go in its final possession.

Furman converted all 18 of its clears with eight turnovers, while forcing 19 in the win.

Yurchak, a freshman from Landisville, Pa., registered a game and season-high seven points, scoring five goals with two assists, and adding seven draw controls and two ground balls. Megan Matthews notched three goals, while Julianna Sanchez notched three points on two goals and an assist, tacking on 12 draw controls.

Rebekah Taylor forced three turnovers with three ground balls, while Kennedy Boyle picked up four ground balls, also causing a turnover. Alex Salim collected 10 saves, hitting the double-digit mark for the third straight game.

Beal and Hannah Dintino both scored four goals apiece for the Paladins, while Hannah Demis tallied a team-high five points on four assists and a goal. Kaylee Coleman also gathered four ground balls, while Meghan Deehan posted eight saves.

The Camels will get back to Big South play on April 3 at Winthrop. CU returns home on April 7, hosting preseason Big South favorite High Point.
