Kolesar’s hat trick leads Camels over Winthrop 8-5

ROCK HILL, S.C. – Mackenzie Kolesar scored three goals, including twice in the second half, and Campbell topped Winthrop on the road 8-5 in Big South Conference play.

The Camels remained unbeaten in Big South play, moving to 4-5 overall and 2-0 in league games, while Winthrop dipped to 4-5 on the year and 2-1 in conference outings.

The Camels held Winthrop off the scoreboard for the game's final 15:32 after Lauren Asher's goal to tie at 5-5. Sam Bishoff returned the lead to CU at the 12:32 mark in the first of two straight man-up goals. Kolesar added her third of the afternoon with 4:40 on the clock, and Julianna Sanchez' insurance score 40 seconds later made it 8-5 for the Camels.

The game saw three ties, including a 3-3 halftime knot after Campbell scored the final two goals of the opening frame.

Campbell won 11-of-14 draws on the day, including 6-of-7 in the second half.

Kolesar paced CU with her first hat trick of the season, while Bishoff and Rasa Welsh added two goals apiece. Alex Salim collected nine saves, with Chandler Stewart and Lizzie Yurchak causing two turnovers each and combining for five ground balls.

Lauren Morris posted two goals for the Eagles, while Asher tacked on an assist. Alyssa Angelo caused three turnovers with four ground balls, and Sara McGuire saved 10 Campbell shots.

The Camels return to Barker-Lane Stadium on April 7, hosting preseason Big South favorite High Point.
