Game Recap: Baseball |

Camels take series with Saturday sweep

Buies Creek, N.C. – Campbell continued its success in home Saturday doubleheaders with another sweep to take the series from Charleston Southern. The Camels won the first game 12-2 in seven innings and 7-2 in the next to pick up their fourth Big South series win.

With the sweep, Campbell improves to 16-9, 11-6 in league play while Charleston Southern drops to 10-13, 10-10 in the Big South.

Campbell is now 8-0 in Saturday doubleheaders play at Jim Perry Stadium and 9-1 across all doubleheaders.

GAME 1 RECAP
The Camels jumped out to an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. After a Packard RBI single, Collin Wolf blasted a two-run shot to left for his first home run of the season.

After Ryan Chasse surrendered wo runs in the top of the fourth, Logan Heintzman entered with the bases loaded and two outs. The senior got the strikeout he needed to end the inning and preserve the lead.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the fourth, a lightning delay paused the game for 30 minutes. The wait was worth it for the Camels. Zach Neto dropped down a perfect bases-loaded two-out bunt on the first pitch after the delay for an RBI single. Two pitches later, Spencer Packard broke the game open with a grand slam off the right field foul pole to give the Camels a 9-2 lead after four innings.

The Camels added three more runs over the next two innings to push the lead to 10. The 10-run threshold was key, bringing the new run-rule in doubleheaders into play and the game was called after seven innings.

Heintzman earned the win for his 3.1 innings of work allowing just two hits and no runs.

Packard led the way on offense with two hits and a career-best five total RBIs.

GAME 2 RECAP
Campbell struck in the first inning again, this time thanks to an RBI double by Neto to give the Camels a 1-0 lead.

Campbell added three runs on three RBI singles from Neto, Wolf and Christian in the third to push the lead to 4-0.

The Camels tacked on two more in the fifth on Wolf's second two-run home run of the day. Bryce Arnold capped the Campbell scoring with an RBI single in the sixth.

Trailing 7-1, the Bucs made things interesting in the eighth. With two outs, a walk, double and HBP loaded the bases and another walk plated a run. Cade Kuehler entered from the bullpen and squashed the potential rally by getting groundout to end the inning. Kuehler then worked the ninth and earned the save.

Seven Camels combined to allow just three Buccaneer hits in game two, but issued seven walks and saw the basepaths stay busy.

Fred Sisco picked up the win for the Camels tossing 1.2 innings and allowing just one hit. Buccaneer starter Daniel Padysak was tagged with the loss after throwing 5.2 innings allowing seven runs and five earned runs.
