RADFORD, VA. – Campbell scored 10 straight goals to overcome a five goal deficit, topping Radford 10-7 Wednesday at the RU Student Outdoor Recreation Complex.
Campbell improved to 6-6 overall with its second win over the Highlanders (4-10) this season. Wednesday's matchup counted as a nonconference contest between the Big South member institutions. CU also topped Radford 15-5 to open conference play on March 13.
Radford jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first paced by three early goals from Ava Goeller, including her third at the 10:19 mark.
Sam Bischoff broke through for the Camels with 3:06 to go in the opening frame on CU's 12
th shot of the game, and 2:07 later,
Julianna Sanchez added another to bring the Camels within 5-2 at the half.
Campbell's run continued in the second half with eight straight scores, led by three more goals from Sanchez, completing a 10-0 run, its longest of the season.
Sanchez' third goal of the day, assisted by
Megan Matthews, tied the game at 5-5 with 23:39 on the clock, and Matthews' free position score just under a minute later gave the Camels their first lead of the game.
Goeller's fourth goal of the day broke the Campbell streak with 2:50 to play, with the Camels holding Radford off the board for 37:29 of game action.
Sanchez paced the CU offensive attack with four goals and six draw controls, while
Lizzie Yurchak and
Megan Matthews added a goal and two assists each, with Yurchak picking up a game-high six ground balls.
Ally Heath tacked on two goals, her third straight multi-goal game, while
Sam Bischoff picked up five ground balls with four caused turnovers and a goal.
Alex Salim collected a career-high 16 saves in the win, including 11 in the second half, adding five ground balls and two caused turnovers for the Camels.
Kennedy Boyle also added three ground balls and two caused turnovers.
Goeller led Radford with four goals, while Jennifer Shield scored twice off the bench. Rachel Rogers collected four ground balls with a caused turnover, while Maddie Bowman recorded 10 saves.
The Camels will hit the road again for the final time in the regular season on Saturday, traveling to Presbyterian.
