Five Camels honored on All-Big South teams

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell has placed five on the Big South's 2020-21 postseason teams, announced Tuesday by the league.

Four Camels were named Second Team All-Big South, including defensive lineman Brevin Allen, tight end Julian Hill, offensive lineman Tyler McLellan and defensive back Darion Slade, while defensive back Levi Wiggins was named to the Big South All-Academic Team.

The Big South announced its full all-conference first and second teams and annual award winners, comprised of 12 offensive and defensive players and five special teams players, plus any ties, as voted by the league's head coaches and media panel.

A Preseason All-Big South selection, Allen started all four games for the Camels at defensive end, totaling 17 tackles, leading all CU defensive linemen on the way to his second appearance on the Big South's all-conference teams (second team in 2019). The junior made a season-high six stops at Appalachian State, plus four tackles each at Georgia Southern and Wake Forest.

Hill enjoyed a breakout campaign in the fall, hauling in six passes for 102 yards in addition to helping push the Camels' rushing attack. The Fayetteville, N.C. native picked up a career-high 65 yards on three catches, including a long of 30, in Campbell's season opener at Georgia Southern.

A returning Second Team All-Big South performer (2019), McLellan again paced the CU offensive line, starting all four games of 2020 at right tackle. McLellan helped push Campbell to 1378 yards of total offense, including 804 passing and 574 rushing, limiting opponents to three or fewer sacks three times. The redshirt junior helped lead Campbell to 205 yards rushing at Coastal Carolina, and 242 yards passing at Wake Forest.

Slade was named All-Big South for the second time in his career (first team in 2019), owning a team-high 38 tackles in 2020, while adding 1.0 stop for loss, a breakup and a QB hurry. The redshirt senior tallied a season-high 12 tackles, including 1.0 for loss at Wake Forest, plus 11 stops at Appalachian State. Slade also posted seven tackles with a breakup and a hurry at Georgia Southern.

Wiggins, named a semifinalist for the 2020 William V. Campbell Trophy, was also named to the Big South's All-Academic Team, starting all four CU games at defensive back in the fall while registering 11 tackles, including 2.0 for loss with three breakups. All three of the trust and wealth management major's pass breakups came in the Camels' near-upset at Georgia Southern, adding three tackles, while collecting 2.0 stops for loss and four total tackles at Appalachian State.

Campbell is coming off an abbreviated four-game, all-FBS schedule in the fall of 2020, taking on Georgia Southern, Coastal Carolina, Appalachian State and Wake Forest.
