BUIES CREEK, N.C. – High Point used a 6-0 second half run to distance itself from Campbell 23-15 Wednesday afternoon at Barker-Lane Stadium.
The Panthers moved to 3-6 overall in their 2021 Big South debut, handing Campbell (4-6, 2-1 Big South) its first conference loss of the season.
The Camels cut HPU's lead to 16-13 with 18:39 remaining on
Sam Bischoff's third goal of the day before the Panthers' six goal flurry, including two apiece from Abby Hormes and Ashley Britton. With HPU holding a 10-8 halftime lead, the Panthers opened the second frame with a 4-0 spurt, led by three goals from Hormes.
Campbell scored five of the next seven, including three straight from
Ally Heath, to cut the lead to 16-13 before the decisive 6-0 High Point run.
High Point totaled 49 shots with just eight turnovers, while forcing 18 CU miscues.
Hormes and Britton combined for 19 points for the Panthers, with Hormes registering eight goals and an assist, while Britton scored seven times with three assists. Britton tacked on 10 draw controls, while Katie Hormes and Rachel Foster added two goals apiece.
Jill Rall tallied five saves, adding six ground balls, while Kylie Holthaus tallied three ground balls and caused a turnover.
Yurchak paced Campbell with six points, notching two goals and a season-high four assists, while Bischoff posted four goals and an assist. Heath and
Julianna Sanchez also scored hat tricks in the loss, with Sanchez earning a game-high 11 draw controls.
Rebekah Taylor picked up four ground balls, while
Alex Salim secured 11 saves for the CU defense.
