BUIES CREEK, N.C. - The Camels overcame a three-run deficit in the fifth inning, by posting nine runs in the frame before posting two more in the sixth inning to win the game via run rule over the Radford Highlanders, 13-5.
With the win, Campbell improves to 21-13 on the season and 12-1 in Big South play. Radford drops to 16-27 with the loss and 9-7 in the conference.
Both offenses started the game hot, scoring runs in the first inning with Campbell leading 2-1 after the opening frame.
Radford would go on to score two runs in the third and fourth innings each taking advantage of four total errors committed by the Campbell defense.Â
The Camels' offense would come alive though in the bottom of the fifth inning posting a season-high for runs scored in an inning with nine runners coming across the plate.
The offensive explosion began when Destini England tripled down the right field line to score Bri Bryant and Katelyn Chisholm. England would then score as Claudia Ware would single through the left side of the infield to tie the game at five.
Alexa Pagano would single to center field with the bases loaded to score two and give Campbell the lead.
Then with two runners on, pinch hitter Kiana Jones blew the game open with a massive three-run home run making it 10-5, Campbell.
England would cap off the offense with her second triple of the inning, this time to left center scoring Bri Bryant for the ninth run of the inning as Campbell lead 11-5.
The Camels would hit the run rule in the sixth inning as Alexa Pagano doubled down the left field line with the bases loaded scoring two ending the game 13-5.
Campbell's Kayla Howald (4-4) got the win in relief going two innings allowing only one hit with no runs. Starter Georgeanna Barefoot gets a no-decision on the outing going four innings giving up five hits and five runs only one of which was earned while getting six strikeouts.
Radford's Jessie Marvin (8-14) took the loss going four and one-third innings pitched giving up ten earned runs off ten hits with four strikeouts.
