Camels down Mountaineers 4-1

BUIES CREEK - Jessica Donald led a second half surge, scoring two goals and assisting on another as Campbell (1-1-1) picked up a 4-1 win over Mount St. Mary's (1-3) Sunday afternoon at Eakes Athletics Complex.

"I was proud of our players for expecting more from ourselves and adjusting to that in the second half," head coach Samar Azem said. "We were much more deliberate in the final third with the ball, now we want to execute more in front of goal."

Elyssa Nowowieski put Campbell ahead early after scoring from 20 yards out on a low shot to the bottom left of the goal in the 13th minute.

The Mountaineers knotted it at 1-1 before halftime as Elisabeth Rockhill's through pass found Hannah Cooksey for the equalizer in the 32nd minute.

CU regained the lead in the 67th minute as a Donald header connected with Amber Liston's cross.

Donald later provided the insurance goal on another header in the 84th minute off a Bayleigh Humbert corner kick. Campbell put the game out of reach just a minute later as Donald assisted an Emma Bushee goal.

"I was very happy for the players that got their goals today and I was really proud of our team for their work rate and energy. We are seeing things come together more in our lines and I am proud of the direction we are going but we have a lot more work to do."

Campbell held a 30-to-5 shot advantage, putting 14 on goal to the Mountaineers' three. The Camels also held a 9-to-1 edge on corner kicks.

The Camels return to the pitch next Thursday at East Carolina. Kickoff from Johnson Stadium in Greenville is set for 7:00 PM on ESPN+.
