Fisher agrees to contract extension through 2025-26

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell University President Dr. Brad Creed and Director of Athletics Dr. Omar Banks have announced a contract extension for head women's basketball coach Ronny Fisher through the 2025-26 season.

Fisher has led the Camels to historic heights through his first five seasons leading the program posting a record of 96-53 overall, two postseason tournament appearances and a Big South regular season title in 2019-20.

"I am so grateful to Dr. Creed, Mr. Banks and the Campbell University administration for their show of confidence in our staff's ability to lead this program," Fisher said. "Our family has been blessed with an incredible five years at Campbell and we truly love being a part of this college community. We have been fortunate to experience success both on and off the court during our time here and our amazing staff and players have made the journey so special. I can promise the Campbell faithful that we will continue to 'Sweat & Serve' in order to reach our full potential and we will continue climbing to reach new heights for our program."

Only the fourth head coach in program history, Fisher has excelled during his time in Buies Creek helping build the Camels into one of the top defensive programs in the nation. Fisher's first season at the helm in 2016-17, the Camels led the nation by holding opponents to a Division-I low 49.6 points per game. The Camels are also one of three Division-I programs (UConn, Baylor) to rank in the top-25 nationally in scoring defense in each of the past five seasons.

Fisher has been named Big South Coach of the Year twice since taking over as head coach, most recently in 2019-20 and in his first season at Campbell in 2016-17.

"Coach Fisher's leadership has been key to the success of this program," Banks stated. "This extension represents the stability we want with our coaches, along with our commitment to support him, the coaching staff and the student-athletes into the future."

Fisher has led the Camels to three seasons with 20 wins or more and appearances in the Big South Tournament final in 2018-19 and 2020-21. Additionally, he has coached nine all-conference selections and four all-freshman team selections.

Under Fisher, MaKala Rouse was named the conference's Defensive Player of the Year in 2016-17 while Lauren McNamara-Clement was named the program's first-ever Big South Scholar-Athlete of the Year this past season.

Prior to his tenure in Buies Creek, Fisher led Big South rival Presbyterian College, earning winning seasons in three of his last four years with the Blue Hose. He was named Big South coach of the year in 2012-13 as he led his team to a 19-12 record and a 14-4 mark in the conference. That team earned a postseason bid to the Women's Basketball Invitational, the program's first postseason appearance since joining the Big South in 2007.

A veteran with 29 seasons of experience, Fisher enters the 2021-22 season as the Big South's most winningest active coach with 193 wins overall and 121 victories in conference play.
