Campbell hosts Radford Sunday night

Camels look to improve four-match unbeaten streak

BUIES CREEK - Campbell (4-2-2, 2-0) looks to stay unbeaten in conference play as it hosts Radford (6-1-1, 0-0-1) on Sunday. Kickoff at the Eakes Athletics Complex is set for 6:00 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.

LAST TIME OUT: Campbell -  Kaleigh Backlund scored twice and Emma Bushee added another goal as Campbell defeated Presbyterian 3-0, improving its unbeaten streak to four. Radford - The Highlanders scored twice from behind to earn a 2-2 draw against Longwood in their Big South opener.

SERIES HISTORY: Radford leads the all-time series against Campbell, 11-9-1. Last season the Camels defeated the Highlanders 3-1 in the semifinals of the Big South Championship featuring goals from Jessica Donald and Cazzi Norgren. Campbell holds an even 4-4 record against Radford, including a 2-2 mark in the conference tournament, under head coach Samar Azem.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT: Radford holds a 6-1-1 record overall and a 0-0-1 mark in conference play as it enters Sunday's matchup. The Highlanders rank 4th nationally in scoring offense (3.86 goals per game), 5th in points per game (11.29) and 6th in assists per game (3.57). Freshman forward Kat Parris' seven goals this season leads the Big South and ranks 15th nationally. Radford is coached by Ben Sohrabi in his 28th season at the helm.

BAIOTTO - FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK: Forward Reagan Baiotto was named Big South freshman of the week after scoring the game-winning goal in last Saturday's 2-1 win at High Point. The Swansboro, N.C. native made her first career start against the Panthers and has tallied the winning score twice during CU's four-match unbeaten streak.

BUSHEE EARNS NATIONAL HONORS: Emma Bushee was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Team of the Week after assisting on the eventual game-winning goal Sept. 18 at High Point along with maintaining a defense that held the preseason favorite to one goal and six shots on frame. Bushee has started all eight matches and is averaging more than 85 minutes.

BALANCED ATTACK: Six Camels - Kaleigh Backlund (2G, 0A), Reagan Baiotto (2G, 1A), Emma Bushee (2G, 1A) Jessica Donald (2G, 2A),  Elyssa Nowowieski (2G, 1A) and Jackie Richards (2G, 2A) have accounted for 12 of Campbell's 13 goals this season through 8 matches.

BIG EAST IMPACT TRANSFERS: Campbell's transfers from the Big East Conference - Mary Tierney (DePaul) and Jackie Richards (Xavier) - have made significant impacts this season. Tierney helps maintain the CU backline and leads the team with 742 minutes played while Richards ranks tied for the team lead with 2 goals and 2 assists.

HEAD COACH SAMAR AZEM is in her fifth season in charge of the Fighting Camels (63-52-17 overall / 40-26-6 Big South). She guided the Camels to a No. 22 team ranking by Top Drawer Soccer, their first Big South Championship since 1993, and the program's second-ever NCAA Tournament berth during the 2020-21 season.
