ELON, N.C. - Athanas Kioko finished first at the Elon Opener in Campbell's season opening meet Friday night.
Kioko finished the 6K course in 17:55.2, outpacing 106 other runners. Duke's Zach Kinne finished second to the 2020-21 Big South Runner of the Year, with a time of 17:56.5.
The CU men placed sixth overall, ahead of Winthrop and Gardner-Webb, with an average team time of 19:46.6. Rievan Lombard and Pace Clark finished 37th and 38th while freshman Julian Jones took 44th. Karson McKenzie rounded out the Camels in 56th.
Duke's men took top honors as its top five runners placed 2nd through 6th consecutively with an average time of 18:07.3. East Carolina followed in second while UNC Greensboro took third.
Lesego Mpshe placed 11th in the 4K race with a time of 14:09.9 as the lone runner for the Campbell women. Duke's women finished 1-2-3 with Charlotte Tomkinson leading the way in 13:32.4.
