Camels host Radford Saturday on ESPN+

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Coming off a convincing win, Campbell (8-6, 1-2) hosts Radford (5-10, 1-2) Saturday at 2:00 p.m.  The game will air on ESPN+ with Evan Budrovich and George Miller on the call.

After losing its first two league outings by a total of eight points, the Camels never trailed Wednesday in a 67-52 win over Charleston Southern.  Jordan Whitfield scored a season-high 18 points, Cedric Henderson, Jr. added 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Ricky Clemons contributed 13 points and 9 boards for the Camels, who shot 56 percent from the floor.

Radford is coming off an 83-75 overtime loss Wednesday to Longwood.  Dravon Mangum forced OT with a 3-pointer from near halfcourt at the buzzer, but the Highlanders made just 2-of-10 shots in the extra period.  Bryan Hart led Radford with a season-high 18 points, while Artese Stapleton added 16 off the bench.

  • Campbell has held 13 of its 14 opponents below 70 points and ranks first in the Big South, 21st in the nation, in scoring defense (60.1).
  • According to University Health & Safety guidelines, only essential personnel - and no spectators - will be allowed at home Campbell events through Jan. 19.
  • Four Camels rank among the Big South's top 30 scorers - Cedric Henderson, Jr. (10th, 12.7), Jesus Carralero (23rd, 11.1), Jordan Whitfield (26th, 10.7) and Ricky Clemons (27th, 10.4).
  • Bryan Hart (9.8) and Rashun Williams (9.0) are the top scorers for Radford, which ranks 11th among 12 Big South teams in points per game (64.5).  Josiah Jeffers, who scored a career-high 23 in Radford's win at USC Upstate, is averaging 14.3 points over 3 Big South games.
  • Following Saturday's game, the Camels play their next two games on the road – Wednesday at Longwood (7:00) and Jan. 22 at North Carolina A&T (5:00).

CAMPBELL-RADFORD NOTES
  • Radford has dropped six of its last seven games, but its last two losses have come down to the wire - by one point vs. NC A&T (Jan. 8) and Wednesday in overtime against Longwood (83-75).
  • Four of Radford's five probable starters began their careers at other schools.  Rashun Williams (South Florida), Bryan Hart (Lincoln Memorial/Clayton State), Dravon Mangum (Charlotte) and Lewis Djonkam (VCU) all transfered into the Highlander program.  Senior Josiah Jeffers has played his entire career for Radford.
  • After finishing as regular-season runner-up last year, Radford was picked to place fourth in the North Division of the Big South preseason poll.
  • Radford native and former West Virginia standout Darris Nichols is in his first season as head coach of the Highlanders.  He joined the staff after spending the past six years as an assistant coach at Florida.
  • Two original Big South members, Radford leads the all-time series with the Camels 26-21, while Campbell has won 11 of 20 games (including 7 of the last 12) since returning to the Big South in 2011-12.
  • Third-seed Campbell defeated the second-seeded Highlanders 78-60 last March in the Big South tournament semifinal round at Radford.  Ricky Clemons scored a career-high 19 points to lead CU.  Joshua Lusane added 14 points, 8 rebounds and five assists, while Jordan Whitfield (11) and Cedric Henderson, Jr. (10) also reached double figures for the Camels, who extended their school Division I era (since '77-78) win streak to nine games.  Fah'Mir Ali led Radford with 19 points, but only three in the second half, while Bryan Hart came off the bench to add 16 for the Highlanders, who trailed for the last 36:04 of play.
  • Radford swept the regular season series with the Camels the last 2 years, but three of those four losses came in two-possession games (margin of 6 or less).
  • Campbell and Radford shared the Big South regular season title in 2018-19 with 12-4 records, but the Camels earned the top seed in the league tournament by virtue of a regular-season sweep of the Highlanders.
  • Both Radford and Campbell have had alumni playing in the NBA during the 2021-22 season. Radford's Javonte Green ('15) is with the Chicago Bulls, while 2019 Big South player of the year Chris Clemons was on a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks after playing for the Maine Celtics in the G-League.
  • Other notable Radford alumni including former Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer (who attended grad school at RU) and ESPN commentator Marty Smith.
