CHARLESTON, S.C. - Campbell extended its unbeaten streak to 10 as it earned a 3-1 win over Charleston Southern Wednesday afternoon at the CSU Soccer Field.
The Camels improve to 8-3-3 overall and remain unbeaten in Big South play at 4-0-2 while Charleston Southern moves to 5-7-2 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play.
Charleston Southern struck early, scoring the opening goal of the match as Elin Persson found the back of the net for the Buccaneers in the 13th minute.
Jessica Donald found the equalizer later in the first half in the 27th minute as Jackie Richards sent the ball down the left sideline for Olivia Neal who crossed it into the box for Donald for the goal.
Richards scored what would become the game-winner in the 63rd minute after driving down the left side of the field and firing a shot off the bottom bar and in.
Laney Peabody added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute, heading in a Bayleigh Humbert corner kick.
The Camels held a 15-6 advantage on shots and prevented the Buccaneers from another attempt on frame following the opening goal. The Campbell backline limited Charleston Southern to just three total shots for the entirety of the second half.
Campbell returns to Eakes Athletics Complex on Saturday night as it hosts USC Upstate for a battle for first-place in the Big South standings.
