Camels earn 2-2 draw at Gardner-Webb

Campbell unbeaten in last eight

BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. - Campbell earned a 2-2 draw against Gardner-Webb Tuesday evening at Greene-Harbison Stadium.

Campbell (6-3-3, 2-0-2) improves its unbeaten streak to eight and remain unbeaten in Big South play this season with the draw. The Runnin' Bulldogs move to 7-4-3 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play.

The Camels scored first in the 39th minute as Jessica Donald crossed it into the box onto a crashing Jackie Richards who scored her third goal of the season.

Elyssa Nowowieski doubled the lead in the 49th minute, tapping one into the net following several ricochets in the box following a corner. Donald was credited with her second assist of the day on the goal.

Gardner-Webb answered moments later as Big South leading goal scorer Maddie Turlington made a penalty kick in the 53rd minute. Turlington leveled the game at 2-2 just 44 seconds later on a volley from the top of the box.

Despite outshooting Gardner-Webb 21-5 and taking 11 corners, the Camels failed to find the winning goal in the remainder of the second half.

Richards led all players with five shots on the day, including two on goal, while Donald tallied four shots.

Chloe Leffler made five saves for the Runnin' Bulldogs, including a Laney Peabody header off a CU corner in the 89th minute.

Campbell returns to Buies Creek on Friday night as it hosts Presbyterian, honoring seniors before the match for Senior Night. The Camels will also celebrate with alumni from across 30 seasons.
