Campbell pulls away from Kennesaw State 85-61

Reyna (27) and Dell'Orso (18) hit career highs off bench

BOONE, N.C. – Juan Reyna came off the bench to score a career-high 27 points to lead Campbell over Kennesaw State 85-61 Sunday at the Holmes Center.
 
Freshman Anthony Dell'Orso added a season-high 18 points in 24 minutes and senior Jesus Carralero added a season-best 16, plus seven rebounds for the Camels (3-2), who shot 74 percent (17-23) in the second half.
 
Chris Youngblood led Kennesaw State (4-2) with 17 points and Terrell Burden chipped in 15 for the Owls, who opened the event with four-point wins over Southeastern Louisiana and host Appalachian State.
 
Campbell's bench outscored the Kennesaw reserves 56-12 and the Camels finished with a 28-14 edge in points off turnovers.
 
Kennesaw jumped to a 14-2 lead early, but Reyna came off the bench to score nine points in a 16-4 burst.  His wing three tied the score at 18 and the sophomore transfer ended the opening period with 17 points on 5-of-6 shooting, including 2-of-3 beyond the arc, and 5-of-5 from the line.
 
Burden's three just before the horn gave the Owls a 34-31 lead at the break, but Campbell made 9-of-11 from the line in the first half, and nine of its last 14 field goals of the period.
 
Youngblood's bucket gave KSU a 43-42 lead with 14:35 remaining, but Reyna hit a corner three and the Camels pulled away.  Jasin Sinani nailed a corner trey to push the lead to double figures (57-47) with 9:47 to play and the Camels led by at least 10 for the final 8:23.
 
The Camels hit season highs for points in a half 954) and game (85), overall (.574) and 3-point (.615) field goal percentage as well as free throw accuracy (23-of-28 – .821).
 
Reyna, who scored 25 points against Grambling last season at Alabama State, made 7-of-10 shots, including 4-of-7 threes, and all nine of his free throws, while adding a pair of steals in 26 minutes Sunday.
 
Dell'Orso notched his first career double-figure point outing by hitting 7-of-10 shots from the field and 4-of-4 from the line, while Carralero made 6-of-8 from the field and 3-of-4 from the stripe.  Ricky Clemons dealt a team-leading four assists and made a career-high four steals.
 
CU returns home to host Jacksonville Wednesday in a 4:00 p.m. tip-off.
