Camels roll over William Peace 97-58

Dunn leads six in double figures with 19 points

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Devon Dunn led six Camels in double figures with a season-high 19 points and Campbell defeated William Peace 97-58 Wednesday night at Gore Arena.
 
The Camels (5-5) opened the second half on a 14-2 run and led by as many as 40 against the Division III Pacers.
 
Jay Pal scored 15 points, Ricky Clemons 13, and Joshua Lusane 11, while Anthony Dell'Orso and Juan Reyna chipped in 10 apiece for the Camels, who shot 60.7 percent on the night, 63.6 percent (21-33) in the second half.
 
Michael Dulin led William Peace with 16 points, including 4-of-9 threes, while Tyler Parton (12) and Timothy Pettiford (10) also hit double digits for the Pacers.
 
Campbell, which closed the game on a 21-5 burst, held the Pacers to just 33 percent shooting after intermission and outscored the visitors 54-23 in the second half.
 
A grad transfer from Fairleigh Dickinson, Dunn came off the bench to make 6-of-7 shots, including 5-of-6 beyond the arc, in 25 minutes.  Pal did not miss from the floor (4-4) and knocked down 7-8 from the line.  Clemons was 5-of-9 from the field, while Reyna chipped in four assists and Dell'Orso had four steals.  Laurynas Vaistaras grabbed a career-high six rebounds in 14 minutes for the Camels, who finished with a 41-15 advantage on the glass.
 
The Camels made 16-of-20 (.800) free throws and 7-of-15 (.467) threes and outscored the Pacers 60-18 in the paint. CU forced 18 William Peace turnovers and finished with a 27-7 edge in points off miscues.
 
Campbell led 43-35 at the break after shooting 57 percent in the opening half.  WPU, however, made 54 percent of its first period shots and hit 5-of-15 threes before intermission.
 
NOTES:
  • The Camels have won their last 25 games against non-D I opponents.  CU has topped the 100-point mark 6 times and scored 90-plus on 8 other occasions.
  • The Camels travel to Georgia Southern Saturday (3:00) before closing out the non-conference schedule Dec. 21 at home vs. UNCW (2:00).
