DELAND, FLA. – Hat tricks from
Sam Bischoff,
Ally Heath and
Julianna Sanchez in their 2022 season opener led visiting Campbell over Stetson 19-8 on Saturday at ATC Field.
The Camels (1-0), beginning the program's 10
th season of competition, picked up a victory to open the season for the first time in 2013, defeating the Hatters (0-1) for the second straight season.
Bischoff, Heath and Sanchez all scored three goals apiece, with Bischoff adding three ground balls and two assists, and Sanchez tacking on 11 draw controls.
Megan Matthews also registered two goals and two assists, while
Kaitlyn Gallagher dished out three assists.
Emma Strickland also posted 10 saves in her first career start in goal, adding a pair of ground balls.
Stetson led 3-1 after Katie Kornacki's goal with 7:35 to go in the first quarter before Campbell reeled off 13 straight scores, tying a school record for consecutive goals. The Camels led 15-4 at the halftime break after outscoring the Hatters 6-1 in the second.
Camden Frissora scored three goals to lead the Hatters.
The Camels will be on the road for the first month of the 2022 season, with its first five contests away from Buies Creek. Next up for CU will be a trip to in-state nonconference foes Davidson on February 23 and Elon on March 2.
Campbell will make its home debut on March 19, taking on William & Mary.
