HAMPTON, VA. - Campbell shot 53.4 percent from the field and won its fifth-straight game, defeating Hampton 73-55 Wednesday night at the HU Convocation Center.
The Camels (19-5, 13-2) led the entire game after recording their best shooting performance against a Big South foe this season. CU made 31-of-58 shots from the field and 42.9 percent (9-of-21) from three.
Taya Bolden led all scorers with 17 points, on 8-of-11 shooting, and grabbed 16 boards for her 15th double-double of the season. She also had three assists, two steals and a career-high four blocks in 30 minutes.
Audrey Fuller led the Camels out of the gates scoring 11 of her career-high 13 points in the first quarter. Brittany Staves added 12 points and a career-high six assists while Luana Serranho and Shy Tuelle added seven points apiece.
Hampton (10-12, 6-6) was led by 15 points from Victoria Mason and 10 from both Madison Buford and Amy Reaves. The Pirates were limited to 28.1 percent (16-57) shooting from the field but converted 21-of-25 free throws.Â
Campbell pulled away early after making five three-pointers in the first quarter for a 21-9 lead at the end of the period. A lay-up by Christabel Ezumah with 2:10 to go in the third quarter gave CU its largest lead of 25.
The Camels return to Gore Arena Saturday against Gardner-Webb at 2:00 p.m. for its first of three home games to close out the regular season.
