RADFORD, VA. – Radford rode a 15-4 run late in the second half and went on to a 71-67 win over Campbell Wednesday night at the Dedmon Center.
Artese Stapleton scored 19 points, Rashun Williams 16 and Bryan Hart 11 for the Highlanders (9-16, 5-8), who won their second-straight game.
Cedric Henderson, Jr. scored a season-high 22 points and
Ricky Clemons added 17 for the Camels (14-10, 7-6). Jesus Carralero added 12 points for Campbell, which has alternated wins and losses in its last six games.
Henderson's three with 7:37 to play gave the Camels their largest lead (57-50). However, Williams hit a triple on the next possession to start Radford's decisive spurt while Campbell missed seven of its next eight shots. Another Williams trey provided the Highlanders with a 65-61 lead with 2:30 remaining.
The Camels cut the cap to a pair three times in the last 1:26, but Stapleton hit a free throw line jumper with just over a minute to play, then knocked down two free throws with 16.1 seconds to go. After Carralero's bucket drew CU within 69-67 with 10.6 seconds left, Josiah Jeffers hit both ends of a one-and-one to seal the win.
Radford shot 48 percent (27-56) overall, hit 10-of-23 from 3-point distance and 7-of-8 from the line. Campbell made 49 percent (25-51) of its shots, including 6-of-19 threes (.316) and 11-of-14 (.786) from the stripe.
Henderson made 9-of-14 shots, including 3 of 5 from 3-point distance, while Clemons was 5-of-7 from the floor, 6-of-6 from the line, with seven rebounds. Carralero added seven rebounds and four assists.
Stapleton made 7-of-11 shots overall, while adding five rebounds, four assists and three steals for Radford.
Radford hit 5 of its first 10 threes and took a 27-18 lead on Joseph's triple with 7:06 to play in the first half. The Camels, however, responded with an 11-0 burst and reclaimed the lead (29-27) on Henderson's bucket with 3:06 to play.
The Highlanders led 34-32 at the break, thanks to 6-of-11 shooting beyond the arc. Hart scored 11 first-half points, including 3-of-4 triples.
Henderson had 11 first-half points for the Camels on 5-of-7 shooting. CU shot 50 percent (13-26) in the opening period.
Campbell returns to action Saturday when the Camels host North Carolina A&T at 4:30 p.m.
