Campbell drops pair on final day at Charlotte Invitational

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Campbell dropped games against #22/RV James Madison and Charlotte on the final day of the Charlotte Invitational at Sue M. Dauthridge Stadium on Sunday.

Campbell falls to 3-5 on the season while James Madison improves to 3-1 and Charlotte moves to 10-1.

Game One - #22/RV James Madison defeats Campbell, 4-1

James Madison took an early lead on a solo home run by Emily Phillips in the first. Campbell responded in the bottom half of the inning as Claudia Ware drew a walk and moved to third after a hit by Savannah White.

Ware scored from third after JMU pitcher Alexis Bermudez threw a wild pitch.

JMU retook the lead in the sixth after an error put a runner on first. A failed pickoff attempt moved the runner to third and a sacrifice fly to right field scored the unearned run. The Dukes added two more in the seventh as Hannah Hennessy hit a two-RBI single to center field.

Isabella Smith (1-3) tossed a complete game going up against her former team, striking out five and allowing three earned runs off of four hits.

Bermudez (2-0) picked up the win in the circle for the Dukes, striking out seven and allowing two hits on the day.

Game Two - Charlotte defeats Campbell, 11-2
Campbell started strong in its second game of the day as Ware took a leadoff walk and advanced to third on a single from White in the first. Kayla Fredendall drove in Ware on a sacrifice hit to give the Camels a 1-0 lead.

Charlotte answered in the bottom of the first as Kourtney Gremillion's triple to left field scored two runs.

Stacy Payton hit a two-run home run for the 49ers later in the fifth to extend their lead.

Alexa Pagano responded with her first career home run, a solo shot to left center, to cut into the deficit.

The 49ers retaliated by connecting on five hits and scoring seven runs in the sixth.

Georgeanna Barefoot (2-2) took the loss for Campbell in the circle. Mitchell Karyana (2-0) picked up the win for Charlotte after striking out four in 4.0 innings of work.
