BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell split games against Marshall and Kent State on the final day of the Camel Stampede tournament Saturday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.
The Camels fell to Marshall 6-3 in their first game and defeated Kent State 3-0 in the second game.
Campbell fell behind early against Marshall as the Thundering Herd took a 3-0 lead through the top of the second inning. Campbell responded in the bottom half of the stanza as Sterling Hairston singled to left field and advanced on a bunt single by Samantha Fontaine. A passed ball moved both runners up a base as Alyssa Henault drove in the first run with a base-hit to third base.
The Camels cut their deficit to one in the third inning on Hairston's RBI-single up the middle of the field. Saige Pye homered for the Herd later in the fifth to extend their lead back to three. Aly Harrell added the insurance run in the sixth.
Isabella Smith (2-4) took the loss in the circle after throwing 2.1 innings and striking out five. Sydney Nester (5-3) struck out 13 Camels in a complete game performance for Marshall.
In the second game Georgeanna Barefoot allowed only three hits and struck out eight Kent State batters.
Henault drove in two runs on a double down the left field line after Hairston walked and Danielle Northrup reached on a bunt single. Claudia Ware added another run on a bunt single of her own later in the same inning.
The final day of the Camel Stampede tournament is canceled due to expected inclement weather on Sunday, Feb. 27. This includes Campbell's final game of the tournament against Howard.
Campbell returns to action next weekend hosting the Campbell Invitational featuring Akron, Iona and Cleveland State.
