Arnold homers three times, Camels fall at UNCG

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Bryce Arnold hit three home runs on the afternoon, but it wasn't enough as Campbell fell to UNCG 9-5 at the UNCG Baseball Stadium. The loss drops Campbell to 7-9 on the year, while the Spartans move to 8-9.

Arnold logged just the fourth three-home run day in program history, and the first by a Camel since Henry Rochelle hit five home runs in one game on Mar. 30, 1985. He is already etched into the record book next to Rochelle in the RBI category, holding the second-most RBI in a single game when he drove in eight against Winthrop last season, trailing only Rochelle's 10 from that five-home run game.

The sophomore entered the day with just one home run so far this season, a walk-off against UNCW. All three blasts were solo shots to left field, all against different pitchers, as he amassed 1,086 feet of home run on the day. He also walked in his final at-bat to reach four times.

The Camels put a picket-fence on the score board, scoring one run in each the second through sixth innings. But that was the extent of the Campbell scoring, unable to put up any crooked numbers.

Meanwhile, UNCG used a three-run first, followed by scoring in each inning from the fourth through eighth to keep the Camels at bay.

George Ferguson got the start for the Camels and allowed five runs through 3.0+ innings of work and was tagged with the loss. In total, eight Camels saw time on the hill, with Jonathan Beymer logging the longest relief outing at 2.0 innings.

UNCG's Austin Parsley got the win for 2.0 relief innings after Jared Mathewson lasted 3.0 innings in his start.

Connor Denning and Jarrod Belbin each had two hits for the Camels as well, as Campbell collected a season-high 11 hits on the day.

Campbell returns to Jim Perry Stadium this weekend for a three-game series against West Virginia.
