SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Campbell fell in both games of its doubleheader at USC Upstate, Saturday afternoon at Cyrill Stadium.

The Spartans (24-2, 4-1) took game one, 4-2 and earned a run-rule victory in the second game, 10-1 (6 inn.). Campbell (13-9, 2-3) fell in consecutive games for the first time since Feb. 20. 

USC Upstate 4, Campbell 2 - Game One
Allana Deal's RBI double in the fourth gave the Spartans the lead and Hannah Houge struck out 11 batters to give USC Upstate the win in the first game of the series.

Upstate scored first, plating two runs as starting pitcher Georgeanna Barefoot allowed a run to score on a wild pitch in the first inning. Barefoot was replaced by Kayla Howald in the first but the Spartans managed to score a second run on a groundout.

Alexa Pagano hit a solo shot in the top of the third while Delaney McDilda's RBI single to left field in the fourth knotted the score at 2-2.

The Spartans responded in the bottom half of the fourth, regaining their lead and holding on for the win.

Barefoot (7-4) took the loss for the Camels while Howald tossed six innings allowing one earned run and striking out six. Houge (15-1) picked up the win in the circle for the Spartans.

USC Upstate 10, Campbell 1 (6 inn.) - Game Two
Noemi Cortez put the Camels on the board first on her solo home run in the third inning. Peyton Darnell gave the Spartans the lead in the next inning on her two-run homer down the left field line.

Upstate added an additional run in the fifth behind a sacrifice fly. A grand slam from Sarah Price in the sixth ended the game as the Spartans earned the run-rule victory.

Isabella Smith (4-5) took the loss for the Camels while Alyssa Kelly picked up the win in the circle for the Spartans.

Campbell returns for its final game of the series at USC Upstate tomorrow at 10:00 a.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU.
