Elon edges Camels in shootout 22-20

ELON, N.C. – Campbell connected on a season-high 20 goals and Sam Bischoff posted a career-high six scores, but fell 22-20 at Elon on Wednesday night at Rudd Field.

The teams combined for 42 goals, the most in Campbell single-game history, breaking the previous mark of 41, set in 2015 (L 21-20 vs. Long Island).

Elon improved to 1-4 on the season, while the Camels dropped to 1-2.

Bischoff's sixth goal of the night with 4:15 to play brought CU back within a goal at 21-20, but Bella Feldmann's answered two minutes later and the Phoenix held the Camels off the board for the remainder of the game.

After Campbell jumped out to a 4-0 lead behind a goal and two assists from Rasa Welsh, Elon bounced back with eight straight, and led 10-6 before the Camels were able to knot the score at the break, 13-13, on the strength of three goals from Mackenzie Kolesar.

Hannah McCarthy paced the Phoenix with five goals off the bench, while Cierra Hopson collected four goals and Feldmann added three goals and an assist. Sammy Fisher also tallied three goals, while Gillian Curran scored a goal with an assist, 12 draw controls and four ground balls.

Bischoff added four draw controls and a ground ball to go along with her game-high six goals. Welsh ended the night with five points on two goals and an assist, while Ally Heath, Julianna Sanchez and Kolesar notched three goals apiece. Sanchez also gathered 13 draw controls.

Megan Matthews also recorded a goal and two assists, with Annie Ryan collecting two ground balls and two caused turnovers.

Next up, Campbell will head to Old Dominion on Saturday, March 5. Following a neutral site matchup with Bucknell in Sparks, Md. on March 7, the Camels will make their home debut on March 19, hosting William & Mary.
