FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. – The Camels dropped the final game of the All-American classic 11-5 to Pitt Sunday afternoon at Segra Stadium. The loss was the first of the week for Campbell who had won four in a row entering the final game of the weekend.
The loss drops Campbell to 5-7 on the year while Pitt advances to 7-4.
Aaron Rund got tagged for five runs early, lasting just two innings in his start. He was relieved by
Dylan Koontz who surrendered five of his own over the next inning and a third, and the Camels faced a 10-0 deficit through four innings.
Campbell used eight total pitchers on the day, with the following six allowing one total run in the final five innings. The staff surrendered a season-high in both runs and hits (16).
The Camel offense made a little noise in the middle innings.
Grant Knipp put the Camels on the board in the fifth with his second home run of the weekend, a solo shot to left.
Drake Pierson followed with a three-run blast in the sixth. An RBI single in the sixth from
Zach Williams rounded out the Campbell scoring.
Rund was tagged with the loss, his first decision of the season in his third start. Pitt's Billy Corcoran earned the win, though he was responsible for all five Campbell runs.
Campbell did collect 10 hits on the day, led by Williams and
Zach Neto with three apiece. The top seven batters in the Panthers' order all had multi-hit days to account for all 16 of their hits. Tatem Levins piled up six RBI for Pitt.
The Camels return to Jim Perry Stadium on Tuesday for a midweek matchup against UNCW. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m.
