SPARKS, MD. –
Sam Bischoff and
Joslin Hanbury both registered hat tricks to lead nine different Campbell goal scorers in a 16-11 win over Bucknell on Monday at Tierney Field, on the grounds of US Lacrosse national headquarters.
Campbell (3-2), playing its third game in six days, all away from home, led 7-5 at the half and outpaced the Bison (3-2), winners of three straight heading into Monday's contest, with a seven goal third period in the win.
The Camels owned a 20-11 advantage on draw controls, winning 12 of 17 second half draws, including all five in the fourth quarter, and held the Bison to 1-of-5 on free position attempts in the second half.
Bischoff and Hanbury scored three goals apiece, combing for four ground balls and three caused turnovers, with Bischoff adding four draw controls for the Camels.
Ally Heath tallied a team-high four points on a goal and three assists, while
Julianna Sanchez recorded two goals and an assist with a game-high 11 draw controls, and
Megan Matthews tacked on a goal and two assists.
Rasa Welsh and
Kyla Azzato scored two goals apiece, all coming in CU's third quarter flurry, with
Mackenzie Kolesar and
Laura Will adding a goal and an assist each.
Rebekah Taylor also picked up a game-high four ground balls for the Camels, with
Emma Strickland making five saves.
Laurel McHale paced Bucknell with five points on three goals and two assists, while Emma Cashwell landed three goals. Katie Wendell also collected two goals and an assist, while Emily Baird caused four turnovers. Caitlin Tucker led three Bucknell goalies with nine saves.
After playing the first five games of their 2022 season on the road, the Camels will make their long-awaited home debut on March 19, hosting William & Mary.
