The Camels (4-4, 1-0 Big South) are coming off a historic 17-14 win at High Point to open Big South play.
Sam Bischoff tallied a career-high nine points to lead Campbell, snapping a 26 match Big South winning streak for the Panthers, winners of the last four Big South championships.
Bischoff posted a career-high seven goals to go along with two assists, while
Julianna Sanchez registered five points on a goal and four assists, adding five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Bischoff's seven goals are the most for a Camel in a single game since Mackenzie Koeller registered eight scores twice in 2018.
Megan Matthews and
Rasa Welsh also notched four points apiece, with Matthews totaling two goals and two assists, and Welsh scoring three times with a helper.
Emma Strickland anchored the defensive end with 12 saves in front of the cage, including eight in the second half, while
Katie Ochall picked up a career-high eight ground balls with seven draw controls.
Rebekah Taylor also collected six ground balls with two caused turnovers, while
Mia Lee caused three turnovers with three ground balls for the Camels.
For the season, Bischoff owns a team-high 36 points on 27 goals and nine assists, adding 11 ground balls and six caused turnovers. Matthews, meanwhile, has tallied a Big South-leading 15 assists with 13 goals, while Sanchez has posted 28 points, including 19 goals, with 66 draw controls, ranking eighth in the country with 8.25 draw controls per game.
Defensively,
Annie Ryan has caused a team-high 10 turnovers, with
Chandler Stewart registering eight caused turnovers and 15 ground balls. In goal, Strickland has collected 70 saves.
Campbell's offensive attack ranks as one of the best in the nation, standing 15th overall in goals per game (15.38), as well as seventh in shots on goal per game (26.50) and eighth in draw controls per game (17.62). CU also ranks second nationally in ground balls per game (21.88).
Winthrop is 1-8 on the season, coming off a 19-12 loss to Gardner-Webb in its Big South opener. The Eagles have lost four straight, winning their lone game of the year against Youngstown State, 18-14.
Alyssa Angelo leads the Eagles with 23 points on 17 goals and six assists, while Lauren Asher owns 14 goals and four assists. Asher has also collected a team-high 16 ground balls, while Savanah Paton has caused eight turnovers.
Winthrop leads the all-time series with the Camels 6-3, with CU taking last season's matchup in Rock Hill, S.C. 8-5.
Campbell will continue Big South play next week on the road, heading to Radford (April 6) and Longwood (April 9). The Camels return home on April 13, hosting Gardner-Webb.
