Hampton edges out Campbell 3-2

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Hampton defeated Campbell 3-2 in the series finale Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell (22-13, 10-5) saw its seven game Big South win streak snapped in the loss as Hampton (14-27, 4-11) ended a seven game losing streak.

The Pirates tallied two runs in the third inning following a bases loaded situation. Janae Lyles scored on a fielders choice to shortstop while Emily Kepple added an RBI single.

The Camels knotted the score up in the fifth as Claudia Ware's bases loaded walk scored one and a sacrifice fly from Delaney McDilda scored another.

Kepple connected on a RBI single in the sixth inning which ended up being the game-winning run.

Overall the Pirates left 11 runners on base to just four for the Camels.

Leadoff batter Alyssa Henault went 2-for-3 at the plate while Tyra Parker went 1-for-2 with a hit, walk, run and stolen base.

Kayla Howald (1-4) took the loss in the circle in relief. Howald along with starter Isabella Smith and Georgeanna Barefoot combined to strikeout 13 batters.

Emily Workman tossed five innings, giving up two earned runs and walking four. Kiaya Jesus picked up the win in relief after tossing two innings and giving up no hits and no runs. The Pirates pitching staff failed to record a single strikeout in the entire game.
