RADFORD, VA. - Campbell swept its series at Radford after pulling away with two extra inning wins Saturday at the Radford Softball Complex.
Campbell improves to 25-14 overall and 13-5 in Big South play after sweeping its second conference series of the season. Radford falls to 12-25 and 5-13 in conference play.
Campbell 2, Radford 1 (8 inn.) - Game 1
The Camels pulled out a 2-1 win over the Highlanders in extra innings in the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Radford scored first in the fourth inning on a RBI double. Campbell knotted the score later in the sixth inning after Tyra Parker reached on a single up the middle of the field and scored on a hit by Alexa Pagano.
Campbell added the eventual game-winning run in the top of the eighth as Samantha Fontaine doubled down the left field line. Alyssa Henault's single up the middle of the field pushed Fontaine to third where she then scored after a fielding error by Radford's centerfielder.
Georgeanna Barefoot (11-4) allowed five hits and struck out eight batters in a complete game effort in the circle. Skyler DeHart (3-6) took the loss in the circle for the Highlanders after giving up four hits and one earned run.
Campbell 2, Radford 1 (8 inn.) - Game 2
CU pulled away with another win in extra innings against Radford to sweep the series.
After four scoreless innings, Samantha Fontaine put the Camels on the board first with her solo home run to lead off the the fifth inning. The Highlanders answered in the sixth inning as Cori McMillan knocked a solo home run of her own to even the score at 1-1.
In the eighth inning Tyra Parker connected on a single to left field and advanced to third following a fielding error by the left fielder. Henault pushed the go-ahead run in the next at bat as she doubled down the left field line.
Kayla Howald (3-4) picked up the win in the circle after pitching the final two innings, allowing one hit and one walk while striking out one batter. Isabella Smith, who started the game, threw for six innings where she struck out six batters.
Jessie Marvin (4-12) took the loss for the Highlanders after giving up the winning run in the eighth inning. Marvin struck out three in two innings of relief pitching while starter Emily Spingarn had seven strikeouts but surrendered five hits.
Seven different Camels recorded hits in game two.
