Campbell outlasts Longwood 2-1 in 14 innings

Camels move to second place in Big South standings

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - A walk-off bases loaded walk gave Campbell a 2-1 win over Longwood in 14 innings Sunday at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

With the series win, Campbell (28-15, 15-6) moves into second place in the Big South standings while Longwood (24-22, 15-6) falls to third in the standings.

Lauren Taylor put the Lancers on the board first on her solo home run to centerfield in the third inning.

The Camels finally broke through and evened the score in the sixth inning as Tyra Parker hit one through the right side, advanced to second on a wild pitch and reached home on a RBI single from Claudia Ware.

Eight scoreless innings would follow as Campbell eventually plated the winning run in the 14th. With two outs, Savannah White and Tyra Parker both reached on singles up the middle. Alyssa Henault was hit by a pitch in the next at bat to load the bases for Ware. The redshirt junior took a full count before drawing a walk to end the game.

Georgeanna Barefoot (12-5) threw all 14 innings, finishing with 198 total pitches. The redshirt-sophomore scattered nine hits, gave up one earned run while striking out 11 batters for the win.

Longwood's Sydney Backstrom (17-11) also threw a complete game with 212 total pitches. The preseason Big South Pitcher of the Year allowed 10 hits and two earned runs while walking five and striking out nine.

The Lancers left 11 batters stranded throughout the game to Campbell's eight.
