Camels sweep doubleheader against Hampton

Barefoot, Smith toss one-hitters for Campbell

BUIES CREEK, N.C. - Campbell pitchers both tossed one-hitters en route to a doubleheader sweep over Hampton Saturday afternoon at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium.

Campbell improves to 22-12 (10-4) after winning its seventh straight Big South game while Hampton drops to 13-27 (3-11).

Game One - Campbell 2, Hampton 1
Isabella Smith tossed a one-hitter and Noemi Cortez hit a RBI double as Campbell picked up a 2-1 win over Hampton in the first game of the doubleheader.

Cortez put Campbell on the board in the first inning on her double to right field. The Pirates tied it on a solo home run later in the fourth inning until the Camels answered in the bottom half of the inning with what ended out being the deciding run on a groundout RBI by Kiana Jones.

Smith (10-5), who picked up her 10th win on the season, gave up the lone hit and run on the Hampton home run. Smith struck out four batters and allowed only one walk.

Hampton starter Kiaya Jeusi (4-10) gave up six hits to six different Campbell batters.

Game Two - Campbell 5, Hampton 0
Georgeanna Barefoot threw a one-hit shutout as the Camels defeated Hampton 5-0 in the second game of the doubleheaders.

Barefoot (10-4) joined Smith in picking up her 10th win in the circle after striking out a season-high 10 batters and walking one.

Campbell put three runs on the board in the third inning off of three hits from Tyra Parker, Alyssa Henault and an RBI single from Claudia Ware. Henault scored a run following a wild pitch while a sacrifice fly from Delaney McDilda brought Ware in.

Lindsey Hunt added a RBI double in the next inning while Henault added a RBI hit of her own in the fifth to cap the day.

Emily Workman (6-5) took the loss for the Pirates after allowing four earned runs off of five hits.
