HIGH POINT, N.C. – Campbell dropped a game for the first time since Mar. 24 in a 11-10 defeat at High Point Saturday night. High Point went deep four times on the night, the most allowed this season by Campbell pitching.
The loss ends a nine-game winning streak and drops Campbell to 33-15, 17-3 in the Big South. High Point moves to 20-30, 11-9 in the league.
Campbell got on the board in the first inning on a two-run blast from
Logan Jordan. It's the first loss of the season for Campbell when scoring in the first inning, previously 15-0.
While the teams traded runs for the first four innings, including a
Drake Pierson home run, Campbell eventually took its largest lead at 8-4 on a single from
Connor Denning in the fifth.
The Panthers had plenty of pop remaining in their bats, hitting a pair of home runs in the bottom of the fifth to erase the deficit and put a five-spot on the board.
After Campbell retook the lead in the top of the eighth, High Point again responded with a home run, a two-run shot from Peyton Carr that proved to be the game winner, putting the Panthers up 11-10.
Zach Neto and
Logan Jordan each had two hits on the night, with Jordan driving in a team-high three runs.
Tyler Halstead was 1-3 with a walk, and swiped a career-high four bags on the night.
Cade Boxrucker tossed 4.2 innings in his start, allowing eight runs, walking four and striking out four.
Jake Murray (1-1) was tagged with the loss, pitching the final 2.1 innings and allowing two runs.
The Camels and Panthers face off in the series rubber match tomorrow at 1 p.m. on ESPN+.
Aaron Rund is excepted to get the start on the mound for Campbell.
