Camels drop final road game 7-6 at ECU

GREENVILLE, N.C. – The Camels dropped the final game of their nine-game road trip 7-6 at East Carolina Tuesday night. ECU used nine pitchers and a five-run seventh inning to get the win.

The loss drops Campbell to 34-16 on the year, while ECU improves to 35-18 with two wins over Campbell. The Camels finish the season with a 17-6 mark on the road.

ECU tagged Cade Kuehler for two runs on a pair of solo home runs in the second and third innings, but that was all the Pirates could muster against the sophomore. Kuehler allowed only those two hits while striking out 10 over 6.0 innings of work. The righty has now tossed 6.0 innings with 10 strikeouts in each of his last two starts.

Campbell finally got on the board in the fourth on with a pair of hit-by-pitches to plate a run. The Camels had chances early but didn't cash in, having the bases loaded and one out in both the second and fourth innings and coming away with just one run.

Tied at 2-2 in the seventh, Zach Neto came up big with a three-run blast that tipped off the left-fielder's glove and over the wall to put Campbell ahead 5-2. It was his 13th of the season and helped extend his hit streak to 24 games.

ECU bounced right back with a five-run seventh inning. Four of the five runs were charged to Ryan Chasse (2-2), after a couple of walks and an error gave ECU some momentum. The big blow was a two-out two-run double to break the tie and put ECU up for good at 7-5.

Zach Neto paced the Camels at the plate with two hits, three RBI and two runs. Connor Denning had a pair of hits as well. Campbell went just 2-11 with RISP on the night and were 0-3 with the bases loaded.

Campbell returns home for the final series of the regular season, facing Radford from Thursday to Saturday. First pitch on Thursday night is set for 6 p.m. and will be broadcast on ESPN+.
