Offense explodes late for 14-7 win

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell came back from another early deficit to top Radford 14-7 Friday night at Jim Perry Stadium. The Camels used an eight-run seventh inning to take the lead for good and secure their eighth Big South series win in eight tries this season.

Campbell improves to 36-16, 20-3 in the league while Radford drops to 15-33, 8-15 in the league.

Prior to the game, the Campbell baseball program presented Buies Creek Elementary School with a check for $17,000 to conclude the Ks for Kids campaign. Throughout the season, a $20 donation was made for every strikeout recorded by both baseball and Campbell softball pitchers.

Radford took the lead with a five-run second inning, the largest deficit Campbell has faced since April 24.

Trailing 5-1 in the fifth, Zach Neto extended his hit streak to 26 games with a two-run home run over the batter's eye in the fifth inning to kickstart the Campbell offense for the day. He later added a bases-loaded double off the wall to complete his 2-4, 4 RBI evening.

Campbell entered the seventh inning trailing 8-7, but posted an eight-spot in the frame to take the lead for good. The inning had four scoring plays, all diving in two runs at a time. Drake Pierson hit his team-high 18th home run of the year in the inning, while Neto, Denning and Halstead all drove in two each.

Waldy Arias made Campbell history during the night, getting hit by pitch for the 59th time in his career, a new program record.

Of Campbell's 16 hits on the night, Logan Jordan and Tyler Halstead led the way with three each, and all nine hitters in the batting order hit safely.

Cade Boxrucker allowed five runs in just 1.1 innings in his start, but the Campbell bullpen stepped up. Jonathan Beymer worked three scoreless frames in early relief of Boxrucker. Cummings allowed two runs in 2.2 innings but earned the win. Ryan Chasse finished the game with two perfect innings and three strikeouts.

The Camels and Highlanders round out the regular season tomorrow at 2 p.m. Campbell will honor 10 seniors before the game, with senior day festivities beginning at 1:25 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
