Camels top Blue Devils 6-3

BUIES CREEK, N.C. – Campbell completed the season sweep of Duke with a 6-3 win Tuesday night at Jim Perry Stadium. The Camels allowed three early runs, but locked in to put seven straight zeroes on the board for another comeback win.

The win takes Campbell to 27-14, while Duke falls to 19-24. Campbell will finish the season 3-2 against ACC opponents with a win over NC State as well.

After allowing three runs across the first and second innings, the Campbell pitching staff worked in and out of trouble the rest of the way getting the Blue Devils to leave 13 on base. Duke left the bases loaded in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings without pushing a run across.

Ty Cummings escaped two of the jams, inheriting three runners with one out in the seventh, but getting a pair of punchouts to keep Duke off the board. After loading the bases himself in the eighth, a nice play from Neto up the middle helped him out of the jam for the second time.

Trailing 3-0, Lawson Harrill dropped an RBI single between three fielders in shallow left to plate the first run. Drake Pierson tied the game the following frame with his team-high 10th home run of the season, a two run shot down the left field line.

Campbell took advantage of its bases loaded opportunity in the fifth, when Babin gave the Camels the lead with a two-out, two-run single.

Cade Kuehler (3-5) worked 5.0 innings in his start on the mound, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out six to earn the win. Chasse worked 1.1 innings in relief before Cummings finished the job, fanning three over the final 2.2 innings to pick up the save (6).

Lawson Harrill and Logan Jordan had two hits each on the night as Campbell collected eight total.

Campbell now enters a long road trip, with nine road games in 12 days with games against Winthrop, Ohio State, High Point and ECU. The road trip begins Friday, with first pitch in Rock Hill, S.C. set for 5 p.m.
